‘Bank Building Penzance’
48.5 x 38 cm
70.5 x 60.5 cm framed
Christopher Tate graduated from Falmouth School of Art with an honours degree in Illustration in 2004: he grew up and was educated in Cornwall and has developed a strong reputation as a Cornish artist with a distinctive style and vision.
Christopher is particularly interested in architecture and the built environment. He feels his work is inspired by reportage style- painting as storytelling.
‘Cornwall for me isn’t just about the sea: it’s about the towns, villages and random buildings’
He’s fascinated by different materials and the ways in which buildings age and tell their own story.
Christopher Tate’s ink drawings demonstrate his unique vision of his environment. Working from his home in Falmouth, at which university he studied, Christopher’s obsessive graphic renderings in bright fluid acrylic ink produce images of buildings and landscapes form Cornwall to London and Venice of profound interest that delight. One of the special quirks of Christopher’s work is the occasional messiness and even unintentional splodges and splatters of inks that add character and added value if you are lucky enough to own one. In many ways, he is reminiscent of Stephen Wiltshire.
