Ges wilson

Ges Wilson studied at Loughborough and Exeter Colleges of Art and taught painting in a Penzance school after a move to Cornwall in the 1980s. She went on to become the principle of the St Ives School of Painting between 2000 and 2004 and is still a tutor for degree students.

Ges Wilson makes figurative and semi abstract landscape paintings with a focus on emotion and memory rather than factual record. She uses all manner of means to apply the paint to her canvasses from hands to sticks and occasionally brushes, working in layers, often scrubbing back to achieve a lively texture. She does important work for the Tate St Ives, writing teaching notes for their exhibitions and often leading walks and talks when she is not surfing or helping maintain ancient sea going vessels.
